INTRODUCTION
The Sibanor Development 'Kafoo' Association, originally formed in 2000 in response to a request for assistance with clean water supply for the village of Sibanor, it has since grown into a registered nonprofit organization with over one hundred members across the United States and abroad.
The Association is apolitical, non-religious, and nonprofit in nature, dedicated to improving the lives of Sibanorians and their broader community. Its mission is to promote peace, unity, and brotherhood among Sibanorians, both locally and internationally, while fostering cooperation with other similar organizations worldwide. The Association works across ethnic, tribal, religious, and cultural boundaries, with a focus on development, charitable ventures, and the well-being of its community.
The Sibanor Development Association works to promote progress in key areas such as education, health, sports, science and technology, disaster relief, and safety for all members of the community.
Sibanor Village Background:
Founded in the late 1800s by Mankamang Saho, Sibanor is located in the Foni Bin tang District of the Western Region of The Gambia, approximately 91 kilometers from Banjul, the capital. The village, named after the *hamerkops* (locally known as *Sibanoras* in Jola) that once perched there, is home to a diverse population including Mandinka, Jolla, Fula, Wolof, Manjangos, and Sereres. The primary livelihoods of the inhabitants are subsistence farming and petty trading. Today, Sibanor is the largest settlement in the Foni region in terms of both size and population.
This document serves as the constitution of the Sibanor Development Association, henceforth referred to as the Sibanor Diaspora Association. All members must adhere to the rules and regulations set forth in this document.
